The main advantages are they offer larger diameter bores, a fine adjustment for the lever position, and a selection of pivot lengths. Brembo sells a 19mm bore x 16,18, or 20mm pivot lengths. The smaller pivot length has the same affect as a smaller master cylinder bore size.

The 16 requires the least effort to generate a given pressure, but has the longest stroke. The 20 requires the highest force to generate a given pressure but has the shortest stroke.

The bigger the area of the bore, the less pressure is generated for a given input lever force. The smaller the bore area, the more pressure can be generated from that same input force.

For street r9iding only, an aftermarket 19x18 radial master cylinder can be considered overkill.... due to increased braking capabilities, it's increased benefits might only be utilized by guys riding on a race track. I'm sure the GSXR and CBR1000RR radial masters, although radial, aren't the same as a Brembo 19x18 unit in their overall performance.

Keep in mind that aftermarket Brembos (excluding factory equipped bikes) don't have front brake light switches, and an aftermarket pressure switch/banjo bolt will have to be used at an additional $20 or so)

FWIW: It gets its name "RADIAL", due to the direction the piston travels, (perpendicular to the handlebar) VS AXIAL, which is the way most standard master cylinder's pistons travel. (parellel to the handlebars)

Bottom line: More stopping power with less effort and less lever movement.

Brembo master cylinders are PROVEN to improve braking performance on GSXR's with Radial master cylinders. In fact, the performance is SO MUCH BETTER than the original Suzuki master cylinder, that the WERA racing organization has banned them from Super sport competition, as they provide an unfair advantage to the racers using them. While they have the same piston diameter as stock, and have a shorter bore than the Suzuki part, (they move LESS Fluid) Brembo's superior engineering, design and build quality result in a master cylinder that resists brake fade, even when used with Suzuki calipers.


Like I said, the GSXR is in actuality a radial unit, but usually OEM is substandard in quality when compared to Brembo aftermarket units....
