There will be no sharing of data this season between the two teams that make up the Yamaha factory MotoGP set-up.

The competition for the MotoGP World Championship title this season between Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo will have an added edge.

On Thursday it was confirmed by Masahiko Nakajima, MotoGP Group Leader and Fiat Yamaha Team Director, that there will be no sharing of data between the two riders this year as they do battle for the crown which the Italian won in 2009.

“Speaking with Yamaha I think Jorge, especially last year and already in 2008, demonstrated great speed and a good attitude to fix and set the bike,” said the 30 year-old. “Now he has been in the team for two years, so everyone agrees that it’s possible for everyone to make their own way.”

Rossi continued: “Also, Jorge wants to work more on the development, so I think it’s right that everyone does his job alone. But at the end it doesn’t change a lot because all the comments between me and Jorge are quite similar, so it’s not a big change.”

When asked for his opinion on the matter, Lorenzo – who finished runner-up to Rossi in last year’s Championship – replied: “I don’t have anything to comment about this.”

Jorge Lorenzo suffers hand injury

Friday, 12 February 2010
The Fiat Yamaha rider has had surgery on right hand following a training accident on Thursday, and will not participate in the next test at Sepang which takes place from February 25-26.

Jorge Lorenzo underwent an operation on his right hand on Thursday, after a motocross training accident near Montmeló.

The 22 year-old Spanish rider, who was runner-up in the 2009 MotoGP World Championship, fell in a slow corner when doing approximately 30 km/h and hurt his right hand as he landed.

Lorenzo was immediately taken to the Capio Hospital General de Catalunya where it was discovered he had a fracture at the base of the first metacarpal and a displaced thumb. Doctor Augusto J. Casanovas made an open reduction and osteosynthesis with a small titanium plate, and Lorenzo will require hand protection for four to six weeks.

The Fiat Yamaha rider left the hospital on Friday morning and returned to his home to begin his recuperation. He will not participate in the Sepang test, which is scheduled for February 25-26, but is expected to make a full recovery in time for the final pre-season test in Qatar, which is due to take place from March 18-19.
