Race Tyre Information
BT-002 front / RO1 Superbike Slick Front
Optimum operating pressure - 34psi (hot)
Optimum operating Temperature – 50 to 65 degrees C (tread surface)
Guideline cold pressure – 31 psi
BT-002 Pro Rear / R02 Superbike Slick Rear
Optimum operating pressure – 34 psi (hot)
Optimum operating Temperature – 65 to 85 degrees C (tread surface)
Guideline cold pressure – 27 psi
The guideline cold pressures listed above are not always the correct cold starting pressures. This will depend on rider style, bike set-up and of course the weather conditions. It is recommended to check your pressures after a few laps of practice / qualifying (when the tyres are up to operating temperature) in order to make sure the hot operating pressures for the given day and circuit you are racing on do not rise above 34 psi… and adjust to suit.
If you plan to use one pair of tyres for the event then ensure you put the tyre warmers back on after each visit to the circuit. Allowing race compound tyres to cool down and then re-heat them has a detrimental effect on the performance of the tyre.
Check your tyre warmers to ensure they are not ‘cooking’ your tyres. Ideally, they should be heating the tyres to the middle of the parameters listed above. If temperatures are too high then for every minute the tyres are above the recommended temperature they will become harder and less efficient when you do come to use them.
The easiest and most simple way to check your temperatures is to buy yourself a handheld infrared pyrometer that will read the surface temperature of your tyres. These devices are relatively cheap and are a good addition to your toolbox.
