Knighter pulls out from Tough One lead
Bad luck and a small error in judgement put an end to what looked like a convincing win at the Tough One today.
After putting over 40 hard hours on the standard G450X over here on the Isle of Man, David was more than happy with the reliability and speed of the BMW, even in standard trim.
Deciding to fit the Hydraulic clutch mechanism from the 480 factory bike proved to be a costly mistake though. David had an ok start, following Taddy, Braybrook and Dougie Lampkin from the beginning. David made his way to the lead and passed Braybrook to take the lead. Realising there was a problem with the clutch, David stopped to adjust it, only to find there was no adjustment left! David soldiered on, passing Wayne and stretching out a good lead from the other riders. Starting the third lap, David had to pull in - the clutch was just too bad to carry on, especially with some of the steep hills in the event.
David believes that the hydraulic clutch, specifically the push rod was not compatible with the standard 450 set up.
Disappointed with the result, David had to console himself with the fact that he was easily the fastest guy out there, despite other riders' comments earlier that the four-stroke BMW would be too much of a handful on the Tough One course.
David now returns to the Island for more testing, concentrating now on his WEC E3 class 480 machine.

1. Taddy Blazusiak (KTM Enduro Factory Team)
2. Tom Sagar (Husaberg)
3. Wayne Braybrook (Gas Gas)
