4th - Yamaha R1, 155bhp, 102Nm, 177mph
Class has leapt on again, so its flaws mean the R1 is left well behind. Good, but off the pace.
Pros: Chassis balance on track, looks and colour options.
Cons: Fueling, steering, clutch, power, detached feel.
Dont be fooled by: all the techno-bollox, YCC-I doesnt make riding fast easy like an iPod makes handling your music easy.
3rd - Kawasaki ZX-10R, 159bhp, 101Nm, 185mph
Top track skills come at a price. Hardcore ZX-10R is not made for fast road riding.
Pros: Track pace, braking, clearance, KIMS
Cons: Stability, steering, midrange, details
Dont be fooled by: ideas that you're man enough to tame it on the road. You will be faster on the Honda.
2nd - Suzuki GSX-R1000, 159bhp, 103Nm, 184mph
A brilliant bike, beaten at its own game. Still right on the pace though and a joy to ride.
Pros: Fuelling, suspension, road pace, steering, power.
Cons: Now feels big, heavy and flat. Looks ordinary too.
Dont be fooled by: years of GSX-R domination. The best bike wins FB tests. This used to be the best, now it ain't.
1st - Honda CBR1000RR, 162bhp, 107Nm, 178mph
Honda get it right in every area. The best fast road and track sportsbike ever, for any rider.
Pros: Everything..
Cons: Except for the colour and shape
Dont be fooled by: The 'old man's bike' looks. This is the best and most exciting bike you can get your hands on.
Honda 4 : Kawasaki err...
So much for the 'clear winner'.
