patiko. nesakysiu kas. patys paskaitykit, kokiomis aplinkybemis chebra dalyvauja gonkese:
I hope everyone had a great trip to Laguna. I certainly did, although the heat kicked my butt big time. It felt hotter there than at our AFM race at Thunderhill and I was not wearing leathers at Laguna. Maybe next year though. (Well I can dream, can't I?) And how about our AFM racers and announcer. It was a very proud weekend for our club.

As far as our Thunderhill race went, well let's just say that the racing gods have a crummy sense of humor. Two AFM race weekends in a row have been marathon work sessions. As some of you may know, I crashed my bike pretty bad at the June event resulting in a 6 hour drive to get parts and just as many hours fixing my old RC51 before I could race it on Sunday. (Thanks again Joey Cuellar for the loaner radiator.) Our July race had my old ass sweating in the pits again wrestling an ebay engine into place of the the old engine that had a cracked case from the June crash. By the end of Saturday night I was really feeling my 51 years of age. Back sore, knees creaking from working and sleeping on the ground for two days. Still I would do it again to race with you guys.

Sunday Morning came too early since there wasn't much sleep happening on the hot paddock pavement Saturday night. Some of the guys close to our pit decided to party a little late into the night. Lucky for us they weren't racers. Well I got some fresh Dunlop slicks, thanks to Pat Blackburn of Trackside-Moto, and a little race gas in the tank just in time to see what the 6 year old ebay engine could do in Sunday morning practice. Hot damn, she runs fine and no leaks or hiccups thanks to the rotating volunteer Pit crew that kept stopping by to help lump the engine out and into the bike, the various tool loaners and to John Fosgate and his propane torch. The guy is awesome he rides, he announces and he can break stuff loose. I'd marry him if he wasn't so ugly.

Race number two is my favorite, Open Twins. Once again I'm the lump in the middle of row one with all of the nice new bikes flanking me. Green flag and it's a wheelie fest. Eric and I rode the back wheel damn near to the 1st turn but he got the holeshot this time. (Good job Eric.) I'm in second place watching him slowly leave me. He used to leave me really fast so I guess I'm finally doing something right. My old RC with the Dan Kyle Ohlins suspension feels great! I haven't had to touch his adjustments since he put them on at the round 3 Infineon race. I didn't know a bike could feel so attached to the track. What I lost in horsepower was made up in handling thanks to Dan's magic. They're like my favorite pair of Levi's. It just fits me right. By lap three I'm hearing a Ducati very close behind me then going across start finish it's next to me. I thought it was Craig McLean so I just stayed off the brakes a little longer and held onto second for the next two laps all while hearing his Duc stalk me. I know that sucker is going to motor me on the next straight. Well I had a little bobble at the Cyclone and just lost a little bit of time that would cost me coming down the back straight on the last lap. Under the bridge we go for the final time and there goes... Pat Blackburn? He was the one giving me fits the whole race and I didn't even know it was him. He made a perfect run through turn 14-15 and all I could do was watch his 999r scorch away from me toward the checkered flag. Great ride Pat! I'm lucky I held you off for as long as I did. Pat got second with a 1:55.1 best and I got third with a new personal best of 1:55.2 Eric took another win with a 1:55.0. Good job guys! I don't know what happened to Craig, Schwannie, or Simon but I'm sure they were all right there with us. Open Twins is a ball!

Formula 40 was the last race of the day. I'm in the #3 grid spot for the second time today and it's hotter than hell. I got a good launch and held second for a short time but I was whipped and just could not do my Open Twins lap times feeling a lousy as I did. My buddy Shawn Reilly snuck by on his GSXR1000 and chased down 1st place for another win. On the last lap Jeff Gruetter passed me to take third on his CBR1000. Jeff has really picked up his game in Formula Geezers. If he ever gets a hole shot he'll be right there for a podium I'm sure. Next we're back to Infineon and hopefully a little cooler weather. And to any of you out there that might be pulling for the old guy, please keep your fingers crossed for a wrench-free race for old # 37. I hope to see you there. Stop by the Pacific Track Time garage and say hi if you can make it.

In closing I want to say thank you to my sugar, Roni Elliott. She comes makes it to all the races no matter how hot or miserable the day might be without a complaint. She encourages me to do better and always make for a great time in the pit. It's just more fun when she's there and I'm sure my pit mates will back me up on this one. Thanks baby. You're the best ! ! !
